I received the following e-mail which provides a link to another organization which is following the storm and their Twitter ID. When I click on the link I however recieve a "SERVER ERROR" message but when I paste it into a browser it takes me to his Wordpress blog with an article on the storm.

Thanks to all of you who are playing along with my request to use this storm as a training opportunity ... good stuff and might very well be useful if storms tracks further north and hits the Maritimes more severely.

Also, we'll now be able to have more detailed discsussions on what the CanVOST can do and how it can go about it

Hi, I can also offer some news (more maps and prognosis) about Storm Sandy. It is a German weather site, but you don't need to know German, more important are the nice maps on the middle left part.

City of Toronto is blocking twitter on City blackberrys. Am using my personal phone to monitor twitter. Hopefully "exercises" like this one, will demonstrate the value of monitoring twitter

I was up late last night on email with my Cousin who lives in Jersey, Near Port Norris. She lives across the street from the Command Post and was protected from the surge and some of the wind by the Cape May and the Barrier Islands; as a result she had power all night. I was connecting with #Sandy, #frankenstorm, and #monsterstorm. I saw some facebook posts that had been copied to Twitter as well.

As of 1030 eastern time my cousing is fine, her power stayed on all night and she has plenty of coffee. Lots of sirens going past her home though and apparently some levees have broken at a few coastal towns and so there is some cascading flooding happening now. She observed that some people are feeling safe enough to move around right now, although it is still quite dangerous. The roads to her lab are all flooded and so no one is able to get to work. Her work group is communicating via email.

If anything new and interesting comes up, I will post it.

Jumping in on the thread here...I like these FEMA tools and like the fact FEMA is using them to get their information out even more!   

The FEMA mobile site (http://m.fema.gov), smartphone app (http://www.fema.gov/smartphone-app), and text messages (http://www.fema.gov/text-messages) also provide regular updates.

Correction, my cousin lives in Cape May Courthouse, and works in Port Norris. Streets still flooded (www.511.nj.org) andl ots of accidents. Following @nycarecs, @govchristie, @NYCMayorsoffice, and @nycoem on twitter now. Pretty constant and consistent messages coming out.

It appears that some folks take advantage of an opportunity to circulate fake storm photos. Here isw a link to an article on the subject.  Here is a link to another article on real and fake photos. 

It is disappointing that some folks would deliberately circulate false information. 

I found it interesting how much more information was available through twitter as opposed to news channels like CNN. There was the occasional fake photo or story posted, but I found those just as often through the news networks. The coverage seemed to be more well rounded, rather than the typical "reporter standing in the rain" shots.

I also really liked how many people were circulating lists of legitimate/accurate accounts to follow--it made it much easier to stay up to date.

It would be good to hear from NYVOST on lessons learned from TS Sandy! Such items as resources (human and otherwise) needed, what not to do in the future, etc.
