Microblogs

The PTSC-Online microblog channels enable members to quickly share emergency management related items that should be of interest to PTSC-Online members and viewers. Click on the blog channels to the right to view the purpose of each channel. Other channels can be added as required. Click on the Share a Thought icon on the black bar at the top of the screen to create a micro blog entry from any page in PTSC-Online. Use the icons in the microblog to include links or attach files or pictures. The Reference Current Page checkbox enables one to include a reference to the page one is on when you send the microblog.

Each PTSC-Online member has a personal microblog channel which can be viewed by clicking on the My Thoughts tab in ones personal profile.

Many of Canada's leaders in community safety are meeting this week in Regina, Sk. In its tenth year, CRH Net's annual symposium, attracts, senior officials, researchers, emergency management practitioners and students for three days of presentations, panels and working group activities. Concurrent activities through the week include the annual meeting of Senior Officials Responsible for Emergency Management (SOREM) and the National Roundtable for Disaster Risk Reduction. Check out CRH Net's Young Professionals Group on Facebook; Just search: crhnet young professionals. There are over 60 members there, mostly students and practitioners in the emergency management domain.

How are we suppose to get into a career in Emergency Management when employers what a lot of experience and volunteer positions are becoming hard to find? I have approached 13 places in the last two weeks in a 50 km radius and know will call back or they will not or do not take volunteers.

Upcoming event in Vancouver: SCARP and BTA will be presenting a talk by Mary Rowe, Vice President and Managing Director of the Municipal Art Society of New York, on the topic of community-based resilience. Mary's talk is based upon her work from post-Sandy New York City and post-Katrina New Orleans and the importance and opportunities in investing in community-based urban innovation and intervention.  Mary's talk will be followed by three Vancouver based respondents as well as questions from the floor.
