The purpose of this update is to share some highlights from the January PTSC-Online Steering Committee web conference. I believe some excellent suggestions / recommendations were identified to help build our on line community, but to provide the most benefit to our members and viewers we need you to tell us which items will most interest and benefit you.
Please use the stars or the like or dislike buttons to tell us if you think we are going in the right direction. Please also comment on the items listed below to tell us which items most interest and would benefit you or your organization. You do not have to be a PTSC-Online member to comment. We want to hear from all of you.
The following are priority items identified by the steering committee which should contribute to the value, growth and financial sustainability of PTSC-Online:
- Continue to build on our existing excellent content by encouraging and soliciting blog articles, discussion topics and wiki knowledge base articles. We have excellent social media articles which are recognized world wide but we could benefit from having more material on the basics of developing and evaluating an emergency management program and collaboration among stakeholders. Other suggested topics are e-learning and how to do it more effectively, input on developing standards for fire safety plans in care occupancies, industrial fire brigades, residential fire sprinklers etc. We should also focus on getting more input from and students studying emergency management in Canadian schools, colleges, universities or self study programs.
- Continue to develop networking partnerships and alliances with organizations which have similar interests (Police, Fire EMS, industrial associations, CAER groups, volunteer organizations, colleges and universities which offer emergency management programs, SOREM) to improve communication, facilitate collaboration and pursue projects of mutual interest. See our Networking Partnerships and some of the partnerships which have been developed to date.
- Consider projects which produce products and or services which benefit PTSC-Online members and viewers and contribute to PTSC-Online financial sustainability. Some suggestions included materials to support our emergency management programs, research on topics of interest, webinars, on line training or conferences. Recall our excellent project on Advancing Crisis and Emergency Communications Practices.

I like where you are headed with the items covered. I would be interested in seeing more content around business continuity and disaster recovery.
Kimberly - thanks for the thumbs up....as I'm fairly new to this domain, would you be so kind as to give a few specific bullet points relating to your particular interest re: business continuity and disaster recovery.....and give a couple of examples.

Thanks for your comment Kimberly. I agree we could use more business continuity and disaster recovery information. Hopefully opening the GTIME space to all members and viewers except for the secure GTIME Planners section may help. We would very much like to work more closely with DRIE and DRI and we have already had some discussion about that.
Realistically the content has to come from business continuity professionals like yourself and it can come in two ways: (1) folks have something of value they think should be shared in our Business Continuity blog or in one of our discussion forums , entered in our events calendar or something that is added to the wiki. or (2) someone asks a question in one of the forums and the information will be provided by other members and viewers.
I have a few requests to post business continuity events to the events calendar which are unfortunately still on my to do list because of workload. This is unfortunate because they could be posted directly by the folks who want to promote them simply by becoming a PTSC-Online member.
To build on Randy Fischer's comment, if you posted specifically what you want to see in the business continuity blog, possibly someone will respond and provide it.
Thanks for your comment Randy. As your area of expertise is e-learning I hope you noticed e-learning was listed as one of the topics in which we thought there might be interest. Because we are an on line community e-learning should be a good fit. I am looking forward to learning more on this subject from you.
I think there's should be a channel for risk communication. I know the line between risk comms and crisis comms is thin, but they need to be traited separatly. For all members involve in that part of emergency management, that would be a gain to know what is going on and what is being developp by eachother.
I'm looking for BCP best practices, training, guidelines, stories from individuals who have dealt with a disaster or a crisis to understand and what they learned. This area is new to me and I am trying to gather as much information as I can in order to continually update BCP practices within my organization. I am a member of DRI Canada, DRIE and participated in GTIME II. Networking has helped immensely but I am always on the look out for more information. Anything that can be provided through this site would be great. Thanks!
