I recently registered to participate in the Becel Heart and Stroke Ride for Heart and was particularly impressed with how effectively they used the web and social media to support their objectives.
The Becel Heart and Stroke Ride For Heart web site has a number of features we can consider as emergency managers to support our various programs.
Registering for the event automatically sets up a web page for each individual participant which helps participants promote Ride for Heart and raise sponsor donations. When signed on as a member tools are readily available to customize ones web page, e-mail prospective donners and track ones fund raising progress. Suggested text for an e-mail which can be modified is even included to make the task easier. Think of the potential possibiities of having this capability for fund raising to support an emergency management progject or raise funds to help a resident or community recover from a disaster.
The site also includes links to every possible social media platform that are very user friendly to help participants promote the event and their fundraising efforts. Can you think of a better way to get the word out to community members on emergency preparedness matters than to enlist the support of residents to help spread the word.
Hats off to the Becel Heart and Stroke Ride For Heart organizers for excellent use of web technology.
And while we are on the subject of sharing, there is a share button at the end of the page for each blog article which enables you to share our articles via social networks. Give it a try.
